romanticizing fall: tips for the coziest season
Hey friends! Welcome back to Soul Charging. This week we are talking about the best season of the year, FALL.
I have never been so excited for a fall season than I am this year. I have had the hottest summer of my life and I am so stoked for some crispy weather. I love a cozy season. I thrive during this time of year.
Yes, I am a Libra, so this is my season in every sense. You don’t need to be blessed as a Libra though to enjoy these next few months.
I always do my best to take full advantage of whatever season I am in, especially during the holiday seasons. I find it much easier to be present and really lean into the cyclical nature of the year. I really look forward to these months.
In today’s blog post, we are going to be getting into how to romanticize your fall and make the most of this season. It is definitely the easiest season to romanticize in my opinion, but I swear I’m not biased!
Let’s get into it.
Decorate your space
This is my favorite part of any season. I love fall decor. I love doing a little garden sesh, pouring myself a hot apple cider, rewatching the Vampire Diaries and putting some cutesy, cheap Target pumpkins all around my room.
I used to find season decor a waste of money. My mom has always loved decorating for the holidays and I found it really difficult to justify spending money on something that can only be in your house for a small portion of the year. Now I am a changed woman and I think it is the easiest way to romanticize any season.
I love how present it allows me to be. I love to make my space cozy, I am a Taurus moon so it's just the nature of who I am. I want to feel all the homey vibes. I highly recommend it if you are also someone who cares about your space.
You don't need to buy expensive decorations. I have a lot of things from the dollar section in Target and even cheap little decorations I found at the dollar store itself. It doesn't need to break the bank. Of course if you are shopping at Home Goods or Restoration Hardware, I don't even know where rich people buy their seasonal decorations, then you might be breaking the bank. If you can afford the nice stuff, go for it! It will probably last longer and you would hope it's more ethically sourced. If you can’t afford a $100 pumpkin centerpiece though, don't fret, that’s why Target and Walmart exist.
I also am obsessed with fall candles like everyone else. I patiently wait until it’s socially acceptable for my room to smell like warm apple pie or mulled cider 24/7. I am on a budget and can’t afford the bath and body works one, I just buy the ones from Walmart. I am sure they are cancerous and bad for me, but I am addicted to the scents. Hopefully one day I have money where I can focus on that, but right now I don’t.
2. Create a fall playlist
I am never one to give advice about music because I listen to the same 3 songs on repeat forever, but now is the time to bring out your moody, dark cozy playlists and listen to them for the entire season.
My favorite vibes for fall include Noah Kahan, Hozier, and Ed Sheeran. I like anything moody and slightly depressing. I am this way year around, but especially during the fall. I am not looking to turn on some upbeat, joyous music that is meant to be played driving along the coast with the windows open during peak SUMMER heat. That’s just not the vibe.
3. Go for a fall walk
There is something so special about going for a walk when the air is crisp, it just smells the exact same way it did in the 6th grade when you came home from school to the leaves on the ground and your mother making dinner. It's nostalgic.
This is the perfect time to listen to your curated fall playlist. Pretend you are the main character in a movie and walk for miles. This is my favorite time of year to walk. Walking is great for the ‘ole mental health too!
4. Read spooky books and watch spooky movies
The best part of the year is all the themed things.
I love horror movies. I do my best to try and watch one Halloween movie a day during the month of October, which is crazy, but I love it. I can never accomplish that realistically, but I try my best.
I also love rewatching some of my favorite series that just belong in the fall time. I love the Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars. They bring dark, spooky vibes.
I‘ve been a big fan of thriller books lately as well. I just love that it makes it impossible for me to put them down. In the span of a week, I read 4 thriller books. They are so addicting and I feel like it’s better when there's a chill in the air.
Grab your hot apple cider, light your pumpkin candle, turn on your mood lighting and cozy up to read a book or watch a spooky movie.
5. Embrace local traditions
Oftentimes cities will have events scheduled during the fall months to celebrate the holidays, like pumpkin patches, haunted corn mazes or haunted houses. Enjoy this time to do all the things in your community.
It is so fun to go and pick out a pumpkin at the patch with your family, while drinking some apple cider and riding a bail of hay. Grab some friends and go to a haunted corn maze! Take your little siblings to a haunted house.
6. Consumer everything seasonal
Pumpkin spice… I’m looking at you! Don't let anyone tell you that this is basic, it's basic because it's great. Who cares!
I love pumpkin spice creamers to add to my chai lattes in the morning. I love apple cider so much. I love these scents and I love candles that smell like these scents. I will consume anything pumpkin from September 22nd until it's time to whip out the peppermint flavored drinks.
Seasonal things almost feel more special because you can only access them at certain times of the year. Take advantage of all things pumpkin spice this fall season!
7. Host a cozy friend gathering
So, unfortunately you need to have friends for this one… Good news, you can include friends in any of these other steps, so you don’t need to reinvent the wheel and figure out what to do with your friends. You can go to a haunted corn maze, drink pumpkin spice lattes, and watch spooky movies with all your best pals.
Anything you can do alone, you can do with your friends!
I am more saying that as a reminder to me and my fellow hyper independent friends, because I much prefer to do all these things alone, but it is really valuable to use this time to be with your friends. Although if you are someone who never spends time alone, maybe set aside a night to carve a pumpkin while you watch a scary movie or take yourself to grab a pumpkin spice latte as a solo date!
Community is a beautiful thing and leaning into the holidays can be a great way to connect with those around you.
The best part of all these tips is that they all are intertwined. You can do everything all at once and curate a perfect fall day.
Honestly that’s all I got! 7 ways to make Fall your best season of the year.
I am a big fan of romanticizing your life. These are my favorite ways to live my best fall season. They are simple, yet effective.
